Hughes Leads Cardinal Men at Saturday's Greater Louisville ClassicPublished by
Oct. 4, 2008 LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior Tarah McKay earned another runner-up finish to lead the Louisville women's team at Saturday's Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park, while redshirt freshman Matt Hughes led the way for the Cardinal men. Hughes, a native of Oshawa, Ont., and transfer from Clemson University, covered the 8-kilometer course in a time of 24:21.36 to finish 14th overall in the field of 294 runners. Louisville junior Cory Thorne, running unattached, won Saturday's individual title with a time of 23:45.74 Overall, the Louisville men finished fourth with 127 points, while Southern Illinois won the men's title with 77 points. On the women's side, Texas led the way with 79 points, followed by Georgia State (198 points) and UAB (201 points), while the Cards were seventh with 238 points.
